Why Should I Clean My Air Ducts?

January 26, 2019
0 minute read

Your air ducts need to be cleaned on occasion because they have air blown through them year-round in many areas. With that amount of air, the vents and ducts can become dusty. Your furnace takes air from the outside, then it heats or cools the air. And if you didn't already know, the air outside has things that can make some people feel unwell.

Here are a few reasons that you should clean out your air ducts.

  • For your health. One of the most obvious reasons to have your ductwork cleaned is to improve the quality of air that you breathe. Dust, pollen, and even mold can become trapped in your ductwork and vents. If those particles aren't cleaned out, you could see more allergic reactions from you or your family members who are allergic to these things. And if you didn't know, mold can be very harmful to you, your family, and your pets. It can even cause vomiting and longterm feelings of unwellness if you don't identify the cause of the illness.
  • To improve the efficiency of your heating and cooling system. When dust gets trapped in your furnace and air conditioner, these pieces of equipment have to work harder to heat and cool your home. This can mean higher energy bills. It can also cause more problems to the furnace and air conditioner. You're actually saving money in the long run by keeping your ductwork free of debris.
  • For a cleaner home. If you feel like you're constantly dusting your shelves and electronics, this might be a sign that your ducts need to be cleaned. If your vents are blowing dust into the rooms of your home, you'll be spending a lot more time cleaning. Make the investment of having your ductwork cleaned, and you'll save hours every month because you won't have to dust as often.

Dust, mold, and other allergens are not things that you want in your home. Contact Tom's Mechanical to have your ducts assessed and cleaned if necessary.
